There is no need to change the probe between different fermentations as each probe measures ALL conductivity ranges and cell types. One probe measures capacitance in ALL conductivity ranges. The construction is robust and materials are inert, and the probes do not present a contamination risk. The probes fit standard 25 mm ports and 19 mm for top entry. All probes are built to withstand high pressure and repeated in-situ chemical, heat sterilisation and autoclaving. Probes with either pin or "flush" electrodes are available in a variety of lengths. 12mm diameter probes are available in an annular arrangement. For cGMP applications, probes can be provided that have the wetted parts constructed from materials that comply with FDA, and traceability certificates can be supplied. For smaller fermenters with only 12mm diameter entry ports or for the more demanding applications with low levels of biomass, there has been a requirement for an alternative probe. The new AberProbeTM incorporating four annular ring electrodes, provides a unique solution. When used with the Biomass Monitor, the Aberprobe provides the optimum radio-frequency field for measuring live biomass in microbial fermentations and cell culture. The sensitivity of the probe to cells is distributed more evenly over a large volume compared to the traditional probes: this also reduces the size of the disturbance caused by any large gas bubbles in a fermenter
